Hi everyone:
I've succesfully installed the On-Premesis gateway for Power BI, flow, apps, etc... and connected it succesfully to my on-premesis sql server 2012 database. However I cannot for the life of me figure out how to now add a data set from the connection....am I missing something? The only options for data set related to a sql server instance is azure - and I need to use my on premesis source....
Please help!

Hi @tylerhahn3,
From your description, it seems that you connect to on-premise SQL Server database in desktop use DirectQuery mode, right?
As you already installed the on-premise data gateway, you can go to Power BI service click Manage Gateways, create a SQL Server data source use the same connection information as in desktop. After publish the report to service, the dataset will be configured to use data gateway. For detail steps, see: Manage your data source - SQL Server.

Hi Qiuyun yu
I am facing the same issue but with ssas live connection. I dont know what to put in username field and password field. Can you help me?
Ok, so I feel a bit stupid - but I was trying to use the web interface for Power BI to create a new dataset - which doesn't apparently have a directquery option to connect to an on premesis gateway. I just opened the desktop app, and ta-da, there is the option to use a sqlserver source. I'm not sure I understand the purpose of the gateway though, if I can't connect to my on premesis sql server to use directquery (or some other method of querying the connected database data source).
So I'd still love your help,
Tyler
