Merge Query Issues

hi

I encountered a strange issue when trying to merge 2 tables,

In both tables, i have 2 columns named Order and Objet. However, when I use Merge outer, I was given 0 matches. But when i use lookupvalue, I am able to find matches. Why is that so ?

hi all,

I have finally managed to solve the problem by using the trim on both tables.

Thanks for all the guide provided.

Hi @AndrewHam

Can you show some sample data or screenshots of the problem?

My guess is that the case of the data in the two tables may be different. In Power Query Editor, it is case sensitive so it gives you 0 matches if data has different cases. However, after you load data into Power BI Desktop, it is case insensitive in the data model. So it will treat them as the same data when using lookupvalue. In this situation, if you want to use Merge queries feature, you can add a step to upper or lower the case of the two columns to make them identical in both tables, then do the merging.

In addition, if you select two columns as the matching columns, ensure that you select them in the same order in two queries.
