How to select data for a certain period, based on a table with 2 dropdowns "StartDate" and "EndDate"

Hi everyone,

I have a dataset about employee performance, I want to make a dashboard per engineer. At the top of the page there will be a dropdown to select the engineer we want to look at + a table where you can select "StartDate" and "EndDate" to define the period we're looking at. This table has a header row and a second row with the two dropdowns (in yyyymm format).

I can't seem to find out how to filter my data to in between these dates. As a workaround I thought to just add the StartDate and the EndDate to each row in my main query in order to fix it with a formula. But even that I'm not able to do.

What would you guys suggest?

Have you looked into Query Parameters? There is a way to take a Parameter in Power Query and expose it to the report design part of Power BI. You would need two lookup tables of dates, one for Start Date and End Date. And then in the Model view, you BIND that column to the Power Query Parameter.

Drawback: I think the model needs to be in DIRECT QUERY mode, and when you change the parameter values, it re-runs the whole query.

Another option is to use the SELECTEDVALUE DAX funcion in a Measure or DAX Table statement.
