Help With Power Query Self-Referencing

Hey guys so i started a little project for fun and im running into a little problem now.  Im new to all this so maybe i missed something.

Basically here is what im trying to do. I first decided to run a Query from excel to fetch data from a table on a Wiki using https://www.poewiki.net/wiki/List_of_skill_gems   The query returns me 283 words and pastes them in my sheet. So far so good. I called that Table GemTable.

Now here's where im having issues. I want to make a list with those 283 words so the user can select one of those. I did a dropdown

Next i want to use that selected word in the dropdown and use it as a parameter for another URL Query so it would look something like https://www.poewiki.net/wiki/Anger

Im getting cyclical reference warnings and im not sure how to go about that. And also i cant seem to select my "Gem To Inspect" Table for parameters since theres like just 1 parameter loaded/visible and it seems to require a list

Any help would be appreciated. Thx

Hi,

Hi @Marconium2 ,

Thank you for engaging with the Microsoft Fabric Community. This approach is also possible in Power BI, but it works a bit differently than in Excel. In Power BI, you would normally load the full list of gems into the data model and then use a slicer so the user can select a gem. The visuals in the report are filtered automatically based on that selection.

However, Power BI cannot dynamically refresh a web page each time the slicer value changes. Any data coming from the wiki must be imported during the dataset refresh process, rather than being retrieved in real time when a gem is selected.

So the most practical approach is to load the gem data in advance and then use the slicer only to filter what is already stored in the model.

Regards,

Yugandhar.
