= Excel.CurrentWorkbook(){[Name="Table1"]}[Content]

Dear Community,

I’ve created an Excel template (.xlsx) that includes several Power Query queries linked to tables within the same file.

However, when I share the template—either internally or externally—users receive an error message when they try to refresh the queries. The error refers to a SharePoint folder where the original template was saved, to which they don’t have access.

Despite this, clicking "OK" allows the refresh to proceed successfully.

Is there a way to eliminate this initial error message entirely?

Thank you in advance for your help!

Hi @THOMAS_GOOSSENS,

You're absolutely right that a hidden SharePoint reference is likely embedded within the template. To fully resolve the issue:

  1. Open Power Query Editor and review each query’s Advanced Editor to ensure there are no lingering steps or references pointing to external sources like SharePoint.
  2. Go to Data > Connections and remove any old or unused connections that may still point to the SharePoint location.
  3. After cleaning up both queries and connections, save the file as a new template (.xltx) and share that version instead.

These steps should eliminate the SharePoint error message for all users and ensure a smooth experience when refreshing queries.

I hope this helped! Feel free to ask any further questions. If this resolved your issue, please mark it as "Accept as Solution" and give us Kudos to assist others.

Thank you.

@THOMAS_GOOSSENS . You're doing everything right with Excel.CurrentWorkbook(){[Name="Table1"]}[Content] to reference internal tables — but the issue you're facing is a hidden connection or metadata trace from where the file was originally saved (in your case, SharePoint), and it still lingers in the background even though your queries are local.

So, go to Power Query Editor (Data → Get Data → Launch Power Query Editor), in the Queries pane, look for unused or hidden queries. If the query name is gray, it’s not loaded to worksheet or data model

If there's a query with a SharePoint or web source, delete it completely

Additionally, go to File → Options and Settings → Data Source Settings, and check for any reference to a SharePoint site.If found, select it → Click Clear Permissions and/or Delete

Possibly there's a reference to the sharepoint path within the template that needs to be removed.
