Hi. I am trying to connect to a server however I am getting error below.
Details: "Microsoft SQL: A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the login process. (provider: SSL Provider, error: 0 - The certificate chain was issued by an authority that is not trusted.)"
My coworker has same access as me but not getting same error. I am fairly new to Power BI and dont know if there are settings that needs to be adjusted.
Hi @chiyow2828 ,
1. Check the server name used in the SQL Server database connector in Power BI Desktop.
2. Check the SQL server name mentioned in the certificate used to connect to the SQL server. You may need to consult with your SQL server admin if you're unsure how to check this.
3. Make sure the server names in steps 1 and 2 match. If they don't match, you'll need to use the same name mentioned in the certificate.
Best Regards,
Gao

Hi @chiyow2828
Who issued the certificate that the SQL Server is providing? Is it a self-generated certificate or was it issued by a well known authority like DigiCert?
If it's self-generated, that is, it was created on the SQL Server itself, then your PC/Power BI probaly can't verify that it is a legitimate cert because you can't verify it was created by a global authority like DigiCert or some other SSL issuing authority that create the SSL certs for public websites etc.

Phil
