Data Connection Failing to Refresh

I have a Gateway set up on Powerbi.com which is linked to an on-premises location.  I have an Excel spreadsheet containing Data Models set as the data source.

I do not have an option in Powerbi.com to refresh the data source automatically.  When I click 'Refresh Now' the refresh fails with the following message:

Data source error:	Unable to refresh the model (id=558618) because it references an unsupported data source.
Cluster URI:	WABI-WEST-EUROPE-B-PRIMARY-redirect.analysis.windows.net

I can't find what the problem is and I don't want to go back to recreating everything manually.

Please help.

Hi @Anonymous 

First please check the following:

You connect to an excel file on premise with Power BI Service,

the data in excel file is just simple data or from another data source?

If it is from another data source, when adding data source under the gateway, you should select this data source type instead of excel.

If it is simple data by entering data in excel, please share the setting where you add data source under gateway.

Hello Maggie,

I have an analysis Excel spreadsheet which uses three data connections, one Excel worksheet and two nessus files.  I pull these three data sources into the analysis spreadsheet.

I have added all of the data sources, including the analysis spreadsheet to the gateway as data sources.  I still get the message:

Data source error:	Unable to refresh the model (id=558618) because it references an unsupported data source.
Cluster URI:	WABI-WEST-EUROPE-B-PRIMARY-redirect.analysis.windows.net

Please read List of available data source types under gateway for refresh.

It seems it doesn't support nessus files.
