Custom Sort Order Issues

Hello! Relatively new to Power BI but i'm working on a project where i need to create a report with multiple slicers to help merchandisers see the shape of sales across sizes.

However, because i have multiple product types, genders and hundred of custom size descriptions i'm trying to create a custom sort order to show them in the right way. I've gone through the steps as per a guide i found BUT when i hit the "sort by column" it isn't doing anything? My graph still appears in a weird order rather than say XS, S, M, L, XL its still appearing in alphabetical rather than my defined custom order?

I feel like i'm doing something very obvious wrong

Hi @Anonymous ,

Create a custom column as below:

Then  make type column sort by this column:

vkellymsft_1-1630315596095.png

And you will see that it is ranking as wished:

Hello - please confirm the following:

  • Is your custom sort field a value that is on a dimension table along with the labels ( XS, S, M, etc)?
  • Is the label field from the dimension table the field that is on the visual?
  • When you click Sort by Column, are you doing that on the dimension table?  In Power Query or Table View?

Could you provide a sample of your data? I feel like this is very simple but I am having trouble visualizing what your data looks like.
