Common Data Service (CDS) vs. OData as data source in Power BI

Hi all,

I have created a model-driven power app based on Common Data Service (CDS).

I added a guest from another tenant via Azure AD which and gave him access to the model-driven power app which he is working with without problems.

Now I would like to enable the guest user to do analytics via Power BI on the data stored in the CDS.

In Power Query the guest user might use either "Common Data Service" or "OData feed" as data source.

If the guest user selects "Common Data Service" as data source (which I would think would be the preferred connection method), he gets an error message : "Unable to connect : Access to the resource is forbidden".

Hower, if the same guest user select "OData feed" as data source, he can the successfully import the data from all entities.

My questions for support:

1. What is the difference between these 2 connection methods?

2. Should "Common Data Service" be the preferred connection method?

3. What do I need to do, so that the my tenant's guest user can also access the data via the "Common Data Service" connector?

Thanks for your support!

best, Werner

Hmm, I would think CDS would be preferred. You could check the Issues forum here:

And if it is not there, then you could post it.

If you have Pro account you could try to open a support ticket. If you have a Pro account it is free. Go to https://support.powerbi.com. Scroll down and click "CREATE SUPPORT TICKET".
