Changing the data source file - best practice?

It is just over a year ago since I joined this amazing forum.

I've just started a new project for myself.

Basically, I'll keep it simple without providing actual data samples because it will probably take me a week to learn how to provided an example again. Never quite got my head around that so I'll have to read up on that again because I'd bet a pound to a penny that I am going to get stuck pretty soon.

So I created a new power query from a blank workbook.  I linked to the data source which, for now, was just in my Downloads folder and it had 93 rows in it containing sales data for a whole month of June 2024.  I created lots of queries to break down the information into separate queries.

Once I was satisfied with the initial results, I then changed the data source to a new spreadsheet which I renamed to match the old spreadsheet name which I sent to the recycling bin.   The replacement spreadsheet has sales data from June 2024 to Jan 2025.

When I refreshed, EVERY query didn't want to know.  The only difference between the files is that one had 93 rows and the other has 408 rows!

What could be wrong?

I suspect it has something to do with the fact that the data is stored as a table?

I also get this error message on changing the source?

Is the new spreadsheet saved in the same location as the old one? If not, that could be causing the error

Yes it is but I have just cracked it.

Basically, the item named in the error is the sheet name so once I changed that over it has remedied it. The only issue is that I need to change data source and worksheet name under every tab in Navigation step now.

I think I will simply need to remember to rename worksheet every time I download the source file to something common amongst all queries as I do with the filenames generally.  Even when setting a new project up, it is clearly important to maintain a level of consistency in naming conventions.
