I created a report on PowerBI decktop by connecting to my SQL. I also installed the On-Premises data gateway and configured the PowerBI Manage gateways to automomatically refresh the data.
This is not working because I am not able to DirectQuery from SQL. Looks like I need to have SQL Enterprice and I only have SQL Standar for my small company.
I am looking for commads to create a program that can be run on my server to automatically refresh and update the reports on a daily bases else I don't see why I will use PowerBI and have to do this manually.
Can someone help.
Thanks.

Could you please tell us which data source did you use? MySQL, SQL Server or SQL Server Analysis Service? Besides, which problem did you meet when you refreshing data and using the On-premise gateway? Please share the error message and more information.
For SQL Server, the Direct Query mode doesn’t require an Enterprise Edition, for MySQL, it doesn’t support Direct Query. For SQL Server Analysis Service, we need to use Enterprise edition or Business Intelligence Edition for SSAS 2012/SSAS 2014 in Connect live mode, see this article.
