Automatically cleaning your data

Hi there

I'm new to Power BI however I understand that you can open a number of types of file types and use Power Pivot and DAX formulae, and data modelling, to bring information together before vizualisation.

I also understand that you can read data from a dabase and visualize the results.

We receive data files each week that need to be cleaned (as examples the first x rows do not need to be processed, neither do the comments in the rows below the data).

We clean and combine data then upload this new data into database.

Our visualization tool then visualizes the data based on the selections made by the user.

Are there tutorials/videos available which cover cleaning data and then uploading the new processed data into a database?

Thanks

Andy

Hi AndyDDUK

Of course Microsoft BI can do this things.

You may use SQL Server Integrations Services.

Or even Power BI Desktop with integration of "R".

Load your data files into Power BI Desktop, clean it, give it a massage and export it.

Hi @AndyDDUK,

Power BI is a cloud-based business analytics service that enables anyone to visualize and analyze data. It doesn't support write back to the database. For your requirement, it can't be achieved currently.

Thanks very much for you email.

So to be clear Microsoft BI cannot do what eg Alteryx and Tableau working together can do?

...With Alteryx you can clean and transform data (eg results for last week) and then upload the processed data to a database

...With Tableau you can then read in and visualize all of the data

Is the case that with BI you can only:

...Process data (using Power Pivots etc) and visualize that or

...Read data from a database and visualize that

Be great to understand how this works as its a key distinction for us if we are to evaluate BI....

Thanks
