🏆 We have a winner! 🏆

Wow—what an incredible start to the Power BI DataViz World Championships! With 129 submissions, Week 1 was a true celebration of data, storytelling, and creativity. Our theme was love, and you all delivered reports that explored everything from love songs to dating trends to heartwarming acts of kindness. 💖

But we could only pick one winner—and let’s just say, it wasn’t easy. The competition was fierce, and it came down to the smallest details, including clarity, and insightfulness, accessibility, and our tie-breaker, creativity.

🎉 Congratulations to Javier! 🎉 He shared a true data story with us, about marriage and divorces in Sonora, Mexico. Javier's report stood out for its storytelling approach, stunning and professional design, and ability to tell a clear, compelling story about love through data.

Beyond simply having the highest overall score, judges noted:

• 📊 Engaging data storytelling & design: Javier's report didn’t just present numbers, it told a compelling story. With a clean, professional layout and well-chosen visualizations, it made the data both informative and engaging.

• ♿ Accessibility & visual emphasis: This report was built with accessibility in mind. It uses clear text, well-placed alt text, and effective color choices to ensure key insights stand out for all users. The thoughtful design makes the report both readable and inclusive.

• 🌍 Cultural & Contextual Insights:This report goes beyond the numbers, offering meaningful cultural context. It highlights trends like the rise in same-sex marriages and the significant role of government initiatives, such as "Collective Marriage", in shaping when and how people tie the knot. These insights add depth to the data, making the story even more compelling.

Javier is headed to the Fabric Community Conference in Las Vegas to compete in the Grand Finale!
