Basic questions from a beginner

Hello:

I am using the app on my PC via Windows Explorer and I'm running into some issues with refreshing my reports.

What I'm trying to do is very, very basic, but I can't figuire out what I'm doing wrong.

I have my data in Excel - so far, just one tab (can I even use mutiple tabs for datasets?) with mulitple rows. I have the Excel file on my OneDrive and I have pulled that file into Power BI. I created one simple bar graph using the dataset, which I'm using to depict stats over a certain time period (by week).

Here's the problem:

If I add lines to the excel file (additional weeks of stats), save and refresh the report in Power BI, the report doesn't refresh with the new weeks of data. This means that evertime I add data to the excel file, I need to recreate the graph with my dataset and save it as a report everytime.

Can someone help me out with this?

The other part of my question has to do with saving a dataset and it instantly changes to a report. Is the intention of this to be abel to edit that specific report from the report view and not the dataset view? Maybe because it's not refreshing my data I just haven't gotten to this point yet.

Thank you if you can assist!!

So, are you creating your dataset and report in the Service or the Desktop or are you somehow doing it in the mobile app itself?

DAX is easy, CALCULATE makes DAX hard...

Through Office 365 when I login online. I was trying to use the desktop program but it converted my percentages to decimals.

@getupgal - Hmm, an Excel file on OneDrive should be supported without a gateway required. Did you Connect the Excel file on OneDrive or did you import? If you imported, did you setup a scheduled refresh? Let me know and I will test the scenario and see what kind results I get.

Hi smoupre,

I have tried both options (connect and import). I tried to schedule updates but the only option I get is the default hourly refresh from my One Drive. This seemed weird as well, because the tutorials show more options in this regard.

Did you format this data set as table and import the table instead of the tab? I have the experience that importing from an unformatted table can cause this to happen.

Yes, all formatted properly. The info pulls in fine. It looks like the main issue is getting the report to update after I update/change/add more the info in the spreadsheet.
