Use CapacityMetricsCES Credentials for Metrics App in PowerBI Desktop

I am currently trying to create a custom composite model including the Fabric Metrics App. This has run into a problem, where the auto-generated Metrics App report showed data that did not appear when connecting to the semantic model via PowerBI Desktop. Affected seem only the TimepointData tables (Timepoint(2)Interactive..., Timepoint(2)Background..., etc), while all other tables are accessible as normal. 

We've ruled the DirectQuery mode, as well as a few other things, as possible causes out. The current working assumption that (for whatever reason) only the CapacityMetricsCES credentials have access to those tables and that PowerBI Desktop uses my own credentials when accessing the data. I'll add that this does not seem to be tied to my permissions within Fabric, since even our Fabric Adminstrator cannot view the data in those tables outside the app report.

There are two things I'd now like to know:

1. Is our assumption correct?

2. If it is, does a way exist to use the CapacityMetricsCES credentials in PowerBI Desktop so I can properly use the data I need?

Also, ensure that your account (or your Fabric Administrator) has been added as the capacity admin.  

The credentials provided for the MetricsCES source are invalid

Thanks for the answer, but sadly it does not. I have already seen this blog. The DAX queries do not help here and the approach in Part 2 of that blog (using Fabric Notebooks) also returns empty data. 

To your second point, our Fabric Admin ist also the Capacity Admin for the Capacity that the Metrics App Workspace runs on. That said, this is also not a case of any credentials being invalid. I simply don't have access to them when working on an adapted model in PowerBI Desktop.

The documentation doesn't state that these tables may require different credentials or permissions to access, and it's not clear if that's by design. Since you can see other tables at present, the permissions of capacity admin and workspace admin should be sufficient. 

Based on this, I recommend that you create a support ticket to report this to Microsoft. Microsoft engineers can help check this at backend and verify whether this is by design or an issue. They may have a solution to this.
