powerbi-visuals-tools 4.0.4 fails to create custom formatting options

I switched from powerbi-visuals-tools@3.1.18 to 4.0.4 and now my custom visual doesn't load the custom formatting options. I haven't changed anything in my settings.ts, capabilities.json and visual.ts. It used to show the objects in the format pane before, but fails here: https://github.com/microsoft/powerbi-visuals-utils-dataviewutils/blob/master/src/dataViewObjectsPars... with the below callstack now:
