Visual Refresh

Hello,

Is there a way to control which visual refresh when doing a data upload/refresh?  I am having a hard time with relationships (trying to find a good course to take to help me better understand them so I can build better reports) and my reports are not working correctly. My goal to work around this is to load the report refresh the data and then freeze the card that the data is on so it cannot be updated and refresh the rest of the dashboard but I am not sure this is an option.

Does anyone know if you can edit when and how a visual is refreshed if it can stay stagnant at all?

Hi @KMcGhee ,

Thank you for reaching out with your question regarding visual refresh behavior in Power BI. Base on your description, it seems that you want to keep the "static" values for one specific visual. However, all visuals that are based on that dataset will be updated to reflect the latest data when you refresh a dataset in Power BI. Currently, there isn't a built-in feature to selectively freeze or prevent specific visuals from updating after a data refresh. Here is an workarounds that you might consider: If the data of that visual only from one table and it didn't create any relationship with other table. You can disable the option " Include In Report Refresh" for that query in Power Query Editor just as below screenshot, the data in that query will be excluded in refersh.

Excluding queries from refresh

In addition, you can refer the methods in the following thread to get it.

Solved: Include in report refresh - Microsoft Fabric Community

The two workarounds are:

1. Use incremental refresh. But its refresh partition is dynamically changing, and it can't be kept as refreshing March data only.

Incremental refresh for files in a Folder or SharePoint – Power BI

2. Use DAX instead of M code to combine these tables, and then hide the tables in the model. And uncheck "Include in report refresh" for the January and February tables. This way when the merged table is refreshed only the March data will be refreshed.
