Card Visual doesn't always work

Hi, 

I need some help with card visual. 

I have a card visual that shows the selection from the slicer. For example, if I select Cigarettes from the slicer, it will display "Cigarettes" in the card visual. I also have a page level filter set up and a slicer that allows me to select a year for the data. The card visual does not always display the selection from the slicer, and sometimes it works for one year and does not work for another. The same card visual worked with a different dataset, and I didn't change anything with the new dataset and used the same code. Does anyone have any solutions? Thank you!

What is the point of showing the same data twice in the user interface?

The selection from the slicer is shown again to remind the user about the selected population.

That's what the filter icon is for.
