I don't know a lot about Power BI, but I believe what I want to achieve should be possible, I just don't know where to look to get instructions, because I don't know what process to follow or even what search terms will land me in the right place. I want to auto-generate reports/report pages/visuals sort of "on the fly" and the visuals should be auto-created from a dataset. I kind of imagine this as a Visual "template" and then I feed the template the right data and it generates the visuals, and adds those visuals to a report (or report "page"). Scenario: I have multiple projects in our company, say... 50 projects. Each project has a varied number of KPIs to report on. So, let's say I want to create a visual that shows KPI#1 - title, goal, forecast, actual values in like a square or whatever - all fancified. Then - I want to use the same "template" to create that fancy visual for all other KPIs in that project. Then, I want to use some combination of "templates" to produce this same "page" (remember: varied number of KPIs/visuals for a project), for all 50 projects. I can retrieve all of this data in 1 query if need be, or I can retrieve it per-project if easier, or whatever is best in PBI. I'm just a little confused on how to create these varied number of visuals, automatically.
Can anyone point me in the right direction at least? I understand giving step by step directions here is likely too much of an ask, but - what search terms will point me to the right instructions on Google or the forums, or wherever? I looked into Paginated Reports and... Well, while I understood them, they didn't seem very easy to work with at all. I am happy to use the REST API or PBI Report Builder, or whatever tools work best. But - is Paginated Reports my ONLY hope, or is there something a little easier to work with, such as the API or another tool?
TIA!
Three things to consider
1. Q&A visual allows you to ask natural language questions about your data, proposes a chart type, and if you like it you can convert that into the visual for that type
2. Power BI Embedded allows you to hand craft visuals from your data
3. Tableau has a UI engine that analyzes your data and automatically suggests appropriate chart types (and actively prevents you from choosing the wrong ones)
