I am trying to connect to a mySQL database held on one of our servers. The server uses public key (with password on the key) authentication. The databse is protected with username/password
I can connect to the server and database using other tools (for example an SSH client to connect to the database).
I am, so far, unable to connect to the database or server via Power BI desktop.
Any help welcome.
Thanks
AFAIK you're talking about key-based SSH login on your server. However so far Power BI doesn't support SSH.
At this moment, the only approach can be exporting the data from your MySQL as a csv files, and transfering the files to somewhere Power Bi can access.
We will report this internally and our engineers will evaluate it. Meanwhile you can vote for the idea MySQL over SSH connection.
I am trying to connect to MySQL hosted on a different server with SSH enabled.
I get the following error in PowerBI:
Is this because SSH is not supported?
I assume you have tried some options. I have found it can help to clear any stored credentials at may be wrong and start again. I can't remember the exact menu path, but there is something underdressed the main menu, maybe settings/credentials or similar.
Check out the November 2025 Power BI update to learn about new features.
