Hi,
I'm new to power bi. I've got one requirement (probably simple to solve):
1. Customer's system (linux os, server in MS Azure) is generating data files (e.g. CSV) on daily basis.
2. Data should be auto loaded into Power BI on daily basis.
3. Customer needs to have access to Power BI to generate reports.
conditions:
1. power BI cannot have direct access to generated files (direct access to the source data server)
assumptions:
1. I need to transfer generated files (private network) to a different location (same tenant in MS Azure), accessible by power BI service. This storage location needs to be accessible by Power BI service - from public.
2. Power BI can load data from files stored in one drive (customer has onedrive for business) and generated files can be synced into onedrive. Onedrive is purely windows world, and since I have data in linux, I would have to have (1) separate windows server (2) and samba transfer these files.
3. Power BI can get data from a storage location via SFTP. For this to work, I would need to have a separate linux os server, sftp transfer files from the source to the destination server, and allow Power BI to have access into this storage via SSH port? If this is correct, how do I limit access from outside (power bi service) over SSH port to my files?
Above are just my assumptions of how this might work w/out having any deep (or any at all) networking or Power BI knowledge, but I'd like to start somewhere and learn something. So I'd be glad if you could point me to a correct direction.
Thanks
Are your data files stored in Azure SQL Database or Azure Blob storage,or else?
Are the Azure account and your Power BI lisence in the same tenant?
If both account are in the same tenant,
you could connect to Azure SQL Database, Azure Blob storage with Power BI Desktop,
then publish the reports to Power BI Service,
Under Setting->schedule refresh for that dataset->edit credential,
give credential for that dataset so that you can configure schedule refresh.
If If both are in the same account, please check with your Azure IT if the owner of Azure data can give permission to your Power BI account so you can access to the content from Power BI.
Please note, for Power BI Service, as it is online, whether the MS Azure is in the same tenant with your local Server or not, Power BI Service can connect to MS Azure directly, all we need is to grant correct credential to the dataset as said above.
Best Regards
Maggie
