how to add slicers for multiple response questions from survey

Hi there,

I am facing an issue in filtering data for Multiple response questions. The problem here is, that when I use unpivoted multiple-response questions in the slicer, it will filter only visual related to that particular multiple-response question. I want the entire data to be filtered by having multiple response question options. I added a filter to appear for all the visuals of the page.

It would be really a great help if anyone could assist with this as I am a newbie in PowerBI.

I really appreciate any help you can provide.

Hi @Vidya_Shankara ,

According to your description, you're trying to filter multiple visuals on a page based on a single slicer that's connected to a multiple response question. One way to achieve this is by using a custom visual called "Smart Filter Pro" which allows you to filter multiple visuals on a page using a single slicer. Here are the steps to use this visual:

1. Go to the "Visualizations" pane and click on the "Import from Marketplace" button.

2. Search for "Smart Filter Pro" and click on "Add" to import the visual.

3. Drag and drop the "Smart Filter Pro" visual onto your report canvas.

4. Connect the visual to your multiple response question and select the options you want to filter by.

5. Connect the visual to all the other visuals on the page that you want to filter.

6. Customize the visual as needed (e.g., change the layout, formatting, etc.).

Once you've set up the "Smart Filter Pro" visual, you can use it to filter multiple visuals on the page based on the selected options from your multiple response question.

Hi,

Thank you for your response. The scenario is exactly the same as you mentioned above. I figured out the solution. In "Manage Relationship" I changed the relation of 2 variables (the slicer and the Multiple Response question) to "Both".

However, I will also try the steps you mentioned and see results.

Hi,

thank you for your response. I figured out the solution. In "Manage Relationship" I changed the relation of 2 variables (the slicer and the Multiple Response question) to "Both".

Hi Joe,

The scenario is: I have question 1 (q1) which is multiple response question with different options - A, B, C, D, E in different columns with binary coding (0&1).

Now I want to add q1 in slicer where it needs to filter entire dataset based on the options A,B,C,D,E. For this I unpivoted q1 to add slicer. But when I filter for ex, A or B, it only filter q1 and all other questions from the dataset won't get filtered. I need to filter entire dataset filtered when I select any of the options from q1(multiple response question).

Kindly help. I hope this information is sufficient. Let me know if anything required.

It's quite hard to picture it, without seeing the data. Could you make create a small table here on how the data looks for you before pivoting? Use fake data
