Which is more efficient, bookmarked views or additional pages?

Hi PBI community,

I am trying to find out which of the options below is more efficient for allowing the user to switch between multiple views of the same data.

The two options:

1. bookmarks:

I can set up bookmarks to show or hide a set of graphs/tables, based on users clicking a button. All graphs/tables would be stored on the same report page.

For example: When the user clicks the bookmark "View A", graphs A, B and C are shown, while graphs D, E and F are hidden. When the user clicks the bookmark "View B", graphs D, E and F are shown, while graphs A, B and C are hidden.

2. pages:

I can create separate pages to show the combinations of graphs.

For example: Page 1 shows graphs A, B and C whereas Page 2 shows graphs D, E and F.

Again, the question is which of these options is more efficient. That is, which option loads the quickest.

I hope this question is comprehensible. Please feel free to suggest any alternatives that may be more efficient.

Thanks,

Ian

A very important part in answering your question is wether all these graphs are using the same filters and filtered data. For example; if graph 1, 2, and 3 are visible, does your end user typically just casually check graph 4 and 5 with the same filters applied or will the user more likely look at graph 4 and 5 with different filters?

In the first case, I wouldn't recommend to use pages because your filter context will disappear when changes pages. In the second case, I would definitly recommend pages because that is a whole lot easier to manage than Bookmarks. It's a cool feature but it is also easily becoming very complex in maintaining and developing. So, for your own efficiency, use pages unless the added user experience warrants to use bookmarks 🙂

Kind regards
