What is a recommended approach on Power BI designer files management

We are a team of several people. We all build queries and generate reports which we later publish to app.powerbi.com. We are looking for the best approach to collaborate with each other. There could be some shared queries, we need to see and modify each others reports and data. What is the recommended approach? Should there be just one common pbix file or multiple? Should there be some common shared folder in the network?

It depends on how often you will need to modify existing shared queries. Have you considered putting all the shared queries and reports in on PBIX file and share it through OneDrive?

Hope this helps,

Alex.

Thanks.

Queries and Reports are part of a live environment and once done require maintanence, ie modifications.

We don't really need OneDrive to share the file, as we could place it in the internal network. It's relatively easy to copy M Queries (Advanced Editor) but not as easy with reports. By the way, in excel you could share Power Queries inside the organization, while it's not supported in Power BI.

In any case, I think that all related queries and reports should be kept in the same file. Unfortunately, it's not very easy to achieve at the moment in Power BI

@borlip you may want to also take a look at Azure Data Catalog.. Although not yet integrated with the Desktop, ultimately, you would want to use that as your repository of data sources and queries (including Power Query as the Data Catalog gets merged with ADC)

Azure Data Catalog seems like an interesting approach. When is it going to be available for PowerBI? I suppose it could be used with Excel...

Thanks! We use Groups to share our reports among the team. But my question was about designer files where we create reports and queries. Seems like current version of power bi designer is very limited. I can't find the way to share queries or reports...
