Var month() return multiple columns

Hey, I am trying to calculate a fiscal month using below Var:
Monthtoday= if( month(today())>=7, month(today())-6, month(today()+6).
I am expecting a single value as a result. However, PowerBI said it returns multiple columns.

Could someone please help me understand the issue?

Thank you.

Your code worked for me, but it was missing a single bracket.  Not sure if that was simply a typo when you made this post.  I created a "Measure" and used this:

Monthtoday = if(
    month(today()) >= 7,
    month(today()) - 6,
    month(today()) + 6
)

And got this:

Thank you for your reply Ross. I used another DAX to get around it before I saw your reply. To be honest, if missing bracket was the cause, Id expect different error message at the beginning.
