Using Power Bi online dataset

I created one PBIX file with dataset definition and varius PBIX files for report creation, using Power BI services as datasource.

Is it possibile to check datasource info in desktop client? When I open the PBIX file, the only info I see is CONNECTED TO POWER BI ONLINE DATA SET on the righ corner of the window.

Regards

Not from the client itself I believe. You can copy the pbix to a zip file and open up the Connections document in Notepad to see the connection information.

Dear @Greg_Deckler thanks for the reply but unfortunatly I didn't undertsand what to do.

Could you give me additional info?

Sure, go to File Explorer and find your Power BI Desktop file. It has a PBIX extension. Copy that file and rename it to a .ZIP extension.

So, copy MyFile.pbix to "MyFile (Copy).pbix" and then rename "MyFile (Copy).pbix" to MyFile1.zip.

If you are good at a command prompt you can just use:

copy MyFile.pbix MyFile.zip

Then, open the .zip file in File Explorer. You will see a "Connections" file with no extension. Double-click it and when it prompts you, choose Notepad or some other text viewer to open it. You will see the connection information in the file. It will refer to a GUID I believe that identifies the dataset in the Power BI Service.

@Greg_Deckler your explanation was very useful but I can't find GUID field in Connections file. Maybe his format has changed during time.
