I have a table with [Plan] column in it. Values of this column you can see in Rows of Matrix visual on screenshot. I have a measure _plan_cmprsn where I want to show the name of the plan, user selected in slicer above.
Issue is: Matrix and Sliver both operating on the same [Plan] column. From my understanding, I can't use =SELECTEDVALUE() for extracting value from slicer, because context is affected by Matrix context.
I can have it done by create unrelated duplicate of [Plan] column, and =SELECTEDVALUE() from [Plan-Duplicate].
Can it be done without creating excess piece of data (duplicate)?

@Anonymous it does matter, if this was not a matter your solution would have worked. And it matter of understanding the problem. Without understanding the problem or the setup, how do you expect the answer.
Having said that, if you want the selected plan to be shown in the matrix then you need to create a disconnected table for the plan and use that in the slicer, since the plan is part of the matrix, row context is passing that plan value to the selectedvalue instead of the value selected in the slicer.
Hope this helps you understand the problem.

Hi @parry2k ,
Your method is feasible. I will mention you in workacound part in my reply. I just clearly answered the client that there is no other option and gave a detailed step-by-step.

Hi @Anonymous
According to your statement, I know you want to show Plan which is selected by Slicer in Matrix visual without creating a new unrelated Planed table. Power BI doesn't support you to do that.
Firstly, your slicer was create by same [Plan] column which will be used in Matrix row too. So if you want to show all Plans in matrix, you need to select None in visual interaction.
I have a test to remove the filter from the "Plan" slicer by Edit interaction option in Matrix . However, your select value measure will remove the filter as well. You select value measure will be impacted by Matrix context. It won't only show the Plan which was selected in slicer.
So I agree with parry2k that it is better for you to create an unrelated Dim_Plan table by values function. It should be the workaround for this situation.

Rico Zhou

It doesn't affect issue at all, because question is, quote: "Can it be done without creating excess piece of data (duplicate)? "
Your last answer with all respect is exactly what I already highlighted in the original post. Yes, I can create disconnected table (duplicate of plan without relationships with original table) but it is what I know and try to avoid (said in original post)
@Anonymous my apologies that I missed that you already mentioned it.
The answer is NO

@Anonymous why you have to change the interaction, still not sure what you are actually looking for?

I want to have in Matrix all the plans present. Slicer based on the same [Plan] column, as plan in Matrix. If I choose one plan in slicer it will filter Matrix as well. I don't want to have only one plan in Matrix be visible, goal is to have all of them.
So I changed interactions through "Edit interactions" feature of visual.
All explained above I think doesn't matter for the issue I raised in original post.
@Anonymous how come the matrix is not filtered for the plan you selected in the slicer? What's the point of selecting the plan value in the slicer if you are not filtering matrix visual? Seems like something I"m missing here.

Because interaction between Matrix and Slicer is broken (by me)
