We are suddenly getting this error on a specific PC when opening our dataset, please can someone tell us how to fix it
Solved! Go to Solution.
Hi @S_Kjeldsen ,
Start by verifying that Power BI Desktop is updated to the latest version and matches the version used on machines where the dataset works correctly.
Then, clear the cache by going to File > Options and Settings > Options > Data Load > Clear Cache. If the problem continues, try resetting the user profile by deleting the cache folder at:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Power BI Desktop Store App\Cache.
Also, review your DAX calculations for any potential issues that could be causing the failure.
On Surface devices, installing the wrong architecture can cause silent failures.
Try opening a blank report, connecting to the same dataset, and running a simple DAX query. If that fails, the issue is user's local machine only and not dataset-related.
Right-click Power BI Desktop and choose Run as administrator to test.
Also clear any Analysis Services temp workspace.
Thanks and Regards,
Chaithra.

Thanks Chaithra! We will try all of these things you mention 🙂
Would need to see the measure
Hi Deku, there is no function referenced in the error, and the file works fine for all other users.
Do you have RLS?
Hi Deko, no RLS and the user is a BI administrator, but the error does not come when she uses another machine. She is using a quite new Surface machine and the error just suddenly came.
This is your chance to engage directly with the engineering team behind Fabric and Power BI. Share your experiences and shape the future.
