Cannot see what i am doing wrong here with the switch function using a dis connected table....

You are trying to compare a Boolean object with a text value and hence the datatype mismatch error.
Can you try modifying the DAX expression as below,
NoTrend_Significants =
SWITCH(SELECTEDVALUE(_TrendDirection[Trends]),
"No Trend", [No Trend],
"Significant Trend", [Significant Trend],
[PMSComplaintsMN]
