Support for Converting Live Query Connection to Import Mode

I would like to request the ability to convert a live query connection to import mode in Power BI. This feature would be extremely beneficial for scenarios where users need to switch from a live connection to an import mode without rebuilding the entire report. It would save time and effort, especially when dealing with complex reports and datasets.

Benefits:

  • Flexibility to switch between connection modes based on project requirements.
  • Improved efficiency in managing and updating reports.
  • Enhanced user experience by reducing the need to recreate reports from scratch.

Thank you for considering this feature request.

Hi @jrmahesh7 ,

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Fabric Community.

Thank you @lbendlin  for the prompt response.

If your dataset has already been created using a Live Connection, you cannot directly switch it to Import Mode. Unfortunately, to use Import Mode, you would need to rebuild the report from scratch using a new connection.

If you find this limitation inconvenient, I recommend submitting your detailed feedback and ideas through Microsoft's official feedback channels, such as the Microsoft Fabric Ideas.

If this post helps, then please consider Accepting as solution to help the other members find it more quickly, don't forget to give a "Kudos" – I’d truly appreciate it!

Sadly you can already do this. Use the "Analysis Services"  connector and then choose "Import".

Your listed benefits are outweighed by the loss of agility , the breaking of the security chain, and the newly added overhead of having to manage the import schedule.
