Hi @JannesL05 ,

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Fabric Community.

There are certain limitations to using SSAS MD:

  • Only enterprise and BI editions of SQL Server 2014 support live connections. For the standard edition of SQL Server, SQL Server 2016 or later is required for live connections. This is documented in the Microsoft documentation below.

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/connect-data/desktop-ssas-multidimensional

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/connect-data/desktop-analysis-services-tabular-data

If your version is compatible, check whether the user account has required access permissions. Try accessing it from SSMS and confirm that you have access. Also, try using import mode to narrow down the issue is related to the live connection.

your error logs shows  de-DE (German locale). If the cube includes translated metadata or localized attribute names, try launching Power BI in English (en-US) using the following process:

File -> Options & settings -> Options ->  Regional Settings → Change model language to English.

Hi @v-sathmakuri thanks for your help!

I'am using SQL 2022 and I have four different cubes. One of them works with the live connection, but the other three give me the error. Changing the language didn't help, unfortunately.

Hi @JannesL05 ,

Compare the configurations of the working cube with the non-working cubes to identify any differences. Double check if there are any security or role based restrictions on the non working cubes that might be preventing Power BI from accessing the metadata.

Please check whether you have access to the other cubes. If you have access, reprocess the non-working cubes in SSMS to ensure no processing errors exist.

Hi @JannesL05 ,

May I ask if the provided solution helped in resolving the issue? If so, please mark the helpful reply and accept it as the solution. This will be helpful for other community members who have

similar problems to solve it faster.

Thank you!!

Hi @v-sathmakuri Unfortunately, the problem hasn't been resolved yet. I have all the rights, and in Excel, for example, I can connect the cubes. In Power BI, too, however, there are problems with the live connection.
