Slicer selection should automatically clear table row selections
Hi Power BI Community,
I have a report with a Workstream slicer and 3 table visuals arranged in a hierarchy: Projects → Milestones → Milestone Tasks.
The expected behaviour is simple: when I click on the Workstream slicer, it should filter all 3 tables cleanly. However, what happens is that if a user has previously clicked a row in any of the tables, that row selection persists when the slicer is used. This causes the tables to show blank or greyed-out data because Power BI is trying to apply both the slicer filter and the table row selection simultaneously.
I have already tried the following:
- Configuring Edit Interactions so the slicer filters all 3 tables
- Setting table-to-table interactions to None to prevent cross-filtering between tables
My ask is straightforward: clicking a slicer should automatically clear any active row selections on table visuals on the same page, so the slicer filter applies cleanly without conflicts.
Is there any native way to achieve this without a button or bookmark? If not, I would like to formally raise this as a feature request — the slicer should be able to reset visual-level table selections when interacted with.
This seems like a fundamental UX gap, and I believe many report developers face this same issue.
Thank you in advance for your input.

LungeloMdluli Just to understand, when a user selects anything in the slicer, doesn't it automatically clear the previously selected row in the table? Seems like I'm missing something here.

parry2k Yes it does not clear the selected row, it shows the other rows as greyed out. I want it to clear when I something from the slicer.

LungeloMdluli I'm still not clear what the ask is: could you share some screenshots to explain what you are trying to achieve?

If you're referring to a data point selected in a table or any other visual being automatically cleared when the slicer selection changes, so that its cross-filtering on the other visuals is also cleared, that's not currently possible. Power BI doesn't currently have an option to automatically reset visual selections when a slicer changes.

Hi LungeloMdluli,
What if you enable this feature so everytime they will open the report, it show the default selection and will not retain the previous selections they did?
One more option is to add a button with clear all slicers.Hope this helps.
