Similar Text Strings

I'm looking for a way to identify similar text strings within a column.

Picture for reference shows examples (highlighted yellow) of similar text strings.  I'd like to be able to identify these strings and/or capture the similarity %.

Is this possible?

Have you tried fuzzy or approximate joins?

You would need to self join your column with itself.

If you need further details:

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-query/merge-queries-fuzzy-match

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/powerquery-m/table-fuzzyjoin

If anyone can help me, is there any way to get similarities rowwise comparing two columns?

Hey Hi,

I hope you are doing well!

Even, I am in the same boat ( Please let me know, if you find an answer for the question).

Thank you.

I find myself in the same problem I want to find the similarities between strings of a column

I am literally in the same exact boat, trying to identify similar supplier names in master data. I cannot use M / PowerQuery to transform and create columns, since my source data is a PBI dataset in Azure.

Any ideas on a way to do this in DAX?

Not sure what your plan is once you find the similar ones, but I'm anticipating you'd like to group the results for similar rows together.  There is a great feature you can use if so - grouping and binning.  Please see this post to see if it helps you out.

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/create-reports/desktop-grouping-and-binning

If this works for you, please mark it as solution.  Kudos are appreciated too.  Please let me know if not.

Regards,

Pat

I appreciate your response, but neither of these solutions works in my case.

I have a single column with multiple entries.  Some have 'ABC Ltd', others 'ABC Limited'.  This is the same company but the entries are different.  I'd like to be able to identify where this happens.

i think you will not be able to execute task like this in Power BI correctly

you need some other stating tool or script that will group your column by similarity
