Hi @anilkumar-yadav

You can either purchase shapemap file or use what's freely available. Search for the ones for India at https://gadm.org/maps.html . You will need to convert them to topojson. You can use https://mapshaper.org/ for that.

Hi,

Power BI does not natively include an India map in the Shape Map visual, but you can add it manually using a custom TopoJSON file.

Step 1 - Download the India Map TopoJSON file: reference site - https://data.humdata.org/dataset/geoboundaries-admin-boundaries-for-india

File name - geoBoundaries-IND-ADM1.topojson

You can download from other sites as well.

Step 2 - Enable Shape Map in Power BI

  1. Open Power BI Desktop.
  2. Go to File > Options and settings > Options.
  3. Under Global, select Preview features.
  4. Check the box for Shape Map visual.
  5. Restart Power BI Desktop to apply the changes.

Step 3 - Add the Shape Map Visual

  1. Go to the Visualizations pane.
  2. Click on the Shape Map icon (it looks like a basic map).
    • If you don’t see it, try enabling it again in the Options menu.
  3. Drag the visual onto your report canvas.

Step 4 - Configure the Shape Map

  1. In the Fields pane, add a Location field (e.g., state names).
  2. Click on the Format pane > Map Settings.
  3. Select a built-in map or Add a Custom Map (for India, upload a TopoJSON file). By default it will show json files only from downloads just select all files options and upload. Might get error about wrong file format but it should work.
  4. Customize colors, tooltips, and interactions as needed.

Bhavin
