Hi there. I'm new to PowerBI and have a bit of a problem, maybe someone here can help.
I have a table, SAMPLES, similar to the following example:
SAMPLE_ID | VARIABLE_ID | VALUE |
1 | 1 | 12 |
1 | 2 | 3 |
1 | 3 | 87 |
2 | 1 | 15 |
2 | 2 | 5 |
| 2 | 3 | 65 |
and another table, VARIABLES:
VARIABLE_ID | VARIABLE_NAME |
| 1 | MY_VAR |
| 2 | ANOTHER_VAR |
| 3 | YET_ANOTHER |
VARIABLE_ID is connected between tables
I wish to make a scatterplot where i can select my VARIABLE_NAME independently for each axis, and plot the VALUE for that.
So basically having a slicer that allows me to select between the different VARIABLE_NAME for X axis and another to select between the different VARIABLE_NAME for Y axis.
I have also pivoted the SAMPLES table into the following form
| SAMPLE_ID | 1 | 2 | 3 |
| 1 | 12 | 3 | 87 |
| 2 | 15 | 5 | 65 |
and in that form I can get the scatterplot that I want, by selecting the appropriate columns for each axis. However I cant use the slicer to select by name.
What are my options to do the scatterplot? Thanks in advance
Thanks in advance.
Hi @nunesrfm ,
Not quite sure what you mean, are you referring to using a slicer to display [VARIABLE_NAME] and [SAMPLE_ID] .
You might consider placing [VARIABLE_NAME] to the X-axis and [SAMPLE_ID]. Place it to the Legend so that when you select the slicer, it will show different data.

Can you put the expected results in picture form so we can help you better?

Thanks for your answer @Anonymous. That's not exactly it - What I need is to make a scatterplot that displays in the X-axis one of the variables values, say the values of MY_VAR, and on the Y-axis another variable, say ANOTHER_VAR.
I can do it using the pivoted table, where MY_VAR corresponds to "1" and ANOTHER_VAR corresponds to "2", in the following manner (changed the automatic axis ranges to make the points visible):
The above is the scatterplot for that I need. But I want to be able to select what VARIABLE_NAME is in each axis, so I can then change the scatterplot to display for instance MY_VAR vs. YET_ANOTHER by selecting the display variables in a slicer for the X-axis and another slicer for Y-axis.
Once again, thank you.
