Resource to Learn and apply DAX without using excel/power pivot?

The only resources I can find teach DAX via excel/power pivot. Are there any other resources out there?

thanks. i read the reviews on the book and was told it is 2 advanced for a beginner.

@brs09j whats the issue with learning dax in excel then? there is no difference really in how you write it.
