Reports stopped showing data for certain month

We've been experienceing the following issue: DATA STOPPED SHOWING ON THE DASHBOARD REPORTS STARTING FROM AUGUST

1. The data have been displayed on the dashboard reports since 2021 when we first started using the power BI.

2. It suddenly stopped showing the data starting this month august 1st.

3. We did not touched any filters or settings. No error messages at all.

4. I can see the data within the power bi though in table form but that does not display on the viewer friendly dashboard.

Here's a systematic approach to troubleshoot and resolve this issue:

1. Check Data Refresh Settings:

  • Data Refresh Schedule: Ensure that the data refresh schedule is set correctly and that the data is being updated as expected. Sometimes, the data might be refreshed in the backend but not reflected on the dashboard due to a configuration issue.
  • Manual Refresh: Try performing a manual refresh to see if the data appears on the dashboard.

2. Review Filters and Slicers:

  • Hidden Filters: Even though you mentioned not touching filters, there might be hidden filters or slicers affecting the data display. Check the dashboard for any slicers or filters that might be filtering out the data for August.
  • Clear All Filters: In Power BI Desktop, use the “Clear all filters” option to ensure no active filters are unintentionally applied.

3. Check Data Model Relationships:

  • Relationships Between Tables: Ensure that the relationships between tables are still intact and functioning as expected. If there’s a relationship issue, it could prevent data from displaying on visuals that depend on related tables.
  • Cardinality and Direction: Verify that the cardinality and cross-filter direction are correctly set, especially if new data was added or existing data changed.

4. Inspect Visual-Level Filters:

  • Visual-Level Filters: Each visual on your dashboard may have its own filters. Inspect the visual-level filters to ensure they’re not inadvertently excluding the August data.
  • Recreate Visuals: Try recreating one of the visuals to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is tied to the specific visual configuration.

5. Check for Data Issues:

  • Data Integrity: Verify that the data for August is complete and matches the expected format. Any discrepancies or missing data might cause issues in displaying on the dashboard.
  • Data Types and Formats: Ensure that the data types and formats for the August data match those of previous months. Sometimes, changes in data formats can cause issues in the visuals.

6. Examine Calculated Columns and Measures:

  • Calculated Columns and Measures: Review any calculated columns or measures used in the dashboard. Ensure they are calculating correctly and haven’t been affected by any data changes or updates.
  • Check DAX Expressions: If you’re using DAX expressions, verify that they are correctly handling the August data.

7. Review Dashboard Settings:

  • Power BI Service Dashboard Settings: If you’re viewing the dashboard on the Power BI Service, check the settings for the dashboard. There might be issues related to how the dashboard is configured to display data.
  • Pinning Issues: If you’re using pinned visuals, try unpinning and repinning them to see if the data updates.

8. Check for Updates or Changes:

  • Power BI Updates: Consider whether there were any recent updates to Power BI that might have affected how the dashboard is displayed. Sometimes updates can introduce bugs or changes that impact existing reports.
  • Data Source Changes: Ensure there have been no changes to the underlying data sources that might affect how data is imported or processed.

9. Review Data Load Settings:

  • Data Load Settings: Check the data load settings in Power BI Desktop to ensure that data for August is being loaded correctly and is not excluded due to row or column limits.
