In the Power Query Editor, the whole Query section on the Home toolbar is missing from the August 2025 release. I need this to edit and develop content effectively.
Does anyone else experience this issue, or is there a workaround or resolution available?

Hi @GD_Oz,
Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft fabric community forum. Also, thanks to @Shahid12523, @shashiPaul1570_, for his inputs on this thread. Here below I mentioned some workarounds that might be help.
It is not expected behaviour. The missing Query group (e.g. Refresh Preview, Advanced Editor, etc.) in Power Query Editor’s Home tab appears to be a UI regression in the August 2025 release (v2.146.x) of Power BI Desktop.
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/fundamentals/desktop-latest-update
Right-click any query to access Advanced Editor, Query Properties, or Refresh Preview. Make sure the Power Query window is maximized or try expanding the ribbon to ensure UI elements aren’t hidden due to scaling. Toggle preview features: File → Options & Settings → Options → Global → Preview Features, restart and see if that restores the ribbon.
Temporary fix: Roll back to July 2025 build: Go to the Power BI Desktop update archive page and download the July 2025 version ideally the 64-bit installer, as 32-bit support ends after July. Install that version it should bring back the missing Query ribbon. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/fundamentals/desktop-latest-update-archive
Let’s stick with that build until Microsoft issues a fix in an upcoming release. For Power Query

Hope this clears things up. If you have any doubts regarding this, please feel free to ask here. We will be happy to help.

Thanks, I had the same issue and reverting to the Legacy theme resolved it 👍👍👍

The Query section (including Refresh Preview) is missing in the August 2025 Power BI Desktop update due to UI changes.
Workarounds:
- Disable new UI in Options > Preview Features
- Use right-click on queries for missing actions
- Try keyboard shortcuts (Alt + H + R for Refresh)
- Roll back to July 2025 version if needed
Hi @GD_Oz ,
You may try switching back to Legacy Theme.
Several users have reported (including on the Reddit Power BI Community) that temporarily reverting to the Legacy Theme brings back the Refresh Preview button in Power Query Editor.
Please follow these steps
Go to File > Options and settings > Options > Global > Report Settings
Switch the theme to Legacy
Close and reopen the Power Query Editor
This should restore the missing button until Microsoft fixes the issue in a future release.
You can also follow this link for more details.

Hope this helps! 🙌 If it works for you, please give a Kudos 👍 and mark it as Accepted Solution ✅ so others can benefit.
Regards,
Shashi Paul
