Refresh Power BI Report inside of Teams

Facts;
1. I have a Power BI report in Microsoft Teams.
2. The data factory moves data around at night, followed by my dataset refreshes for said report.
3. All refreshes run without any problems.
4. After refreshes, the report in Teams is still showing yesterday’s data.
Issue;
Obviously, I want people in my organization to go into Teams and see an updated report. I would even be ok, if they had to hit a refresh button (refreshing the Teams tab, does NOT update the Report.)
The only way I have found so far to update the Teams report is to open it in Power BI (desktop or web) and physically push the refresh button within the app and then re-publish it to make the report in Teams reflect the right data.
What do I have to do to have a refreshed report sitting in Teams?

Having the same issue, powerbi in teams channel does not refresh data as expected, the only way seems to refresh data in the desktop app (data transformation) and then publishing it to powerBi workspace. Also used power automate to refresh pbi data when a file is modified in sharepoint (the data source for powerbi) and still the data wont fresh.

All this "power" seems to be in name only, i had to adapt my workflow to work with these tools only to find out they're mostly useless and wasting my precious time!

I just created a solution and hope it will work from someone in future.

here is what i did:

In make.Powerautomate.com , i created a flow where if i enter a specific word in teams then it will automatically refresh the power bi report. please see the screenshot below:

Hope this will help.

I was having the same problem. I found this video as a resource: https://youtu.be/M6YBqhkxras

Unfortunately, I don't have the Premium version of Power BI, so I had to come up with a slightly different solution, using the same general principles.

I created a Power Automate workflow to refresh the dataset when a Sharepoint item is created or modified:

Then you have to choose your Site Address and List Name from Sharepoint.

Then you choose your Operation (what to do when a sharepoint item is created or modified in that list). In the search type Power BI. This will bring up all the options. Choose Refresh a Dataset. Then identify where the dataset lives.

After doing this my Power BI report, that I have as a tab in Teams, refreshes with current data when I go into the tab or click the refresh button.

Hi @Anonymous ,

I'm facing same issue, and i believe it's not about MS Teams at all, as the Power BI report itslef on the BI service workspace doesn't refresh manually unless you do it from the dataset (not the report)!

I prefere the manual refresh as it will be a confirmation that user has the latest data presented.

Wondering if such simple feature is there and not missed by MS.

If you see the above screen shot, there is a option to refersh to 'Refresh Visuals' , any reason that when do this it doesn't get refreshed ? The above guidance you provided it's as good as me republishing the Power BI report it takes same clicks. Going to Power BI App in the MS Teams is of little help, what I'm asking is about the Apps we add directly into the Teams Channel and this Power BI report appears but doesn't get refreshed. Please note source of this Power BI Visual is the MS List nothing out of the system.

Any updates for this issue?

I recently came up with this same issue, too. It seems the only way to refresh the power BI dashboard in Teams is to refresh in the desktop app and publish it in the workspace.

Hi @Anonymous,

Have you tried refreshing the dataset in the Power BI Workspace from Teams itself? I am pretty sure that would work.

Works for you? Mark this post as a solution if it does!
Consider taking a look at my blog: Forecast Period - Graphical Comparison

This did not work for me. Either way it would be nice to have a way to refresh the data directly in Teams.
