Hello,
My configuration is :
Power BI Desktop
SQL Server Express database on local machine
I want to access these database in Direc Query , but i have the following message :
The data source you are trying to connect to is different than the existing DirectQuery data source. To continue, all queries must be switched to Import mode, which may result in a large amount of data being loaded.
I have a no problem in import mode.
Is SQL SERVER Express compatible with Direct Query ?
Is there another solution to this problem ?
Thanks in advance.
Alex
Hi @alexjiang,
>>Is SQL SERVER Express compatible with Direct Query ?
Yes, power bi desktop support above datasource.
Based on the notice message, I'd like to suggest you use a new file to connect with direct query mode.
BTW, I recommend you use server name to connect.

Xiaoxin Sheng
If u r going with direct connection in Power BI we have some limitation.
1. Some Dax functions are not supported.
2. u can't add anyother data source in the same model , all the data should be coming from same database.
My Suggestion for u :
If u want direct query it will create a performance issue. better go with import.
or
if u like u have huge data, pls go with Tabular cube with live connection it will give u great performance.
