Hi, I am Tableau Developer just starting
1. Can PowerBI connect to Tableau Data Source? (tdsx file)
2. Can PowerBI Connect to MSSQL Synonym?
Hello @nil71mp,
Power BI does not have a direct built-in capability to connect to Tableau Data Source (.tdsx) files. Power BI and Tableau are separate data visualization tools with their own file formats. However, you can extract the data from Tableau Data Source files and save it in a format that Power BI supports, such as CSV, Excel, or a database, and then connect Power BI to that extracted data.
Yes, Power BI can connect to MSSQL Synonyms. When connecting to a Microsoft SQL Server database, Power BI can recognize and work with synonyms in the same way as tables or views. You can select the synonym object in the database connector when configuring the connection in Power BI and use it for data analysis and visualization.
Let me know if you might need further assistance.
Hi Sahir,
Thank you very much for your prompt response and explanation. However,
1. Tableau published data sources can not be downloaded in other format than tdsx. Only workbooks can be extracted in cvs or excel format.
2. I am able to connect to SQL Server but and it shows all the tables and views but doesn't display/recognize any synonyms. I don't see them in power bi which I can connect in tableau and see them in MSSQL. Power BI doesn't show entire foler for synonyms. It will be helpful if you can point me to any required changes that need to be made to views them.
Thanks again.
Nil
