I've updated both my Windows 7 and Windows 10 machines with the 28 April update. WIndows 7 based machine works fine but the Windows 10 machine fails to launch. When the problem first started a standard windows close program message would display now all there is a split second display of the Power BI splash screen and then nothing.
I suppose it's not Power BI becasue it's working fine in Windows 7 but i don't know what's changed on the Windows 10 machine from last week when I was using Power BI desktop extensively.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The workaround for this issue is to delete all the s_* files in Users\__user_name\AppData\Local\PowerBI. The bug will be fixed soon.
The solution to delete the s_ files doesn't work for me. In my appdata folder are simply no such files. My appdata folder looks like this for powerbi.
The problem appeared after installing the Windows anniversary update.
I have a hunch that this might have something to do with Cortana, as my machine runs an untypical Cortana setup (the device's region is Germany, but the language of the device is US English).
On my machine also installing the 32bit version as a workaround doesn't work.
the problem will be solved by uninstalling the 64 version of Power BI, and install the 32-bit version it will work
cherrz
the problem solved with me, I uninstall 64 version and I installed the 32bit Power BI version its went fine
CHERRZ
and now, I am seriously angry. I re-installed windiws 10 becasue nothing else was forthcoming. By 2:30 on Saturday morning everything is back up and running and Power BI is working fine. Then on Sunday after working all week end on a project with out any incident it happens again. POwer BI is the only program that has a problem, everything else works fine. I've had enough and I'm not re-intalling windows 10 again. I give up!
That's really bizarre, I have been running Power BI on 2 different Windows and have not run into this issue on either. Knocking on wood...

You should use the Contact Support link at support.powerbi.com and give them this information, here is more info on the error itself:

@Anonymous, This is actually a product bug which i shall report. Usually, I'd ask to send a frown but this error blocks you from going to the Send a Frown dialog. In such cases, you can get in touch with the engineers from Desktop team at pbidesfb@microsoft.com
Good job on scanning the event logs!
Will do. Thanks for the help.
@Anonymous, I sent you a private message with workarounds regarding this issue. Let us know if it helps and we can then post it as a workaround.
received. I'll have feeback for you later today.
The workaround for this issue is to delete all the s_* files in Users\__user_name\AppData\Local\PowerBI. The bug will be fixed soon.
Where can i find the event logs? i've searched the Power BI directory and there's nothing leaping out as an event log.
I have it working fine on my Windows 10 machine, here is my version number:
OS Name: Microsoft Windows 10 Pro
Version: 10.0.10586 Build 10586
I've tried everything to re-surrect it. It even fails when running in Safe Mode. is there a log file that will indicate at what point the program fails at? Short of that, the only thing I can thik of is to do a re-install of Windows.
Well, you can turn on Tracing if you can get into Power BI, not sure of a startup log. I looked in the program directory and did not see any kind of log file. Did a "dir *powerbi* /s" from the root and didn't see anything obvious. You might try reinstalling or repairing .NET Framework 4.5.
I haven't tried re-installing .net Framework, i'll give that a try and report back.
Also, on a whim, try running it as Administrator.
