Power BI Desktop Issue

Today, I found that the local Power BI Desktop cannot open the "Edit Query" function for data. I tried the version issue, but downloaded the latest version from the official website but it still did not solve the problem. I also checked different files, so I ruled out the setting issue for a single file. Yesterday was still okay. The problem was discovered today. Have you encountered this problem again? How have you solved it? Please let me know

Hi @Guo ,

1. Home tab, Transform Data. Please check if you can enter the Power Query Editor from here.

2. If you are using excel --> Data tab --> get data --> launch powerquery editor.

Hi @Guo

I haven't encountered a general issue with the "Edit Query" functionality in Power BI Desktop. Since the problem only occurs with a specific file, it likely isn't a widespread bug but rather a limitation or a configuration issue.

A few things you might want to check:

  • DirectQuery Connection: If your file is using DirectQuery mode, some transformations in Power Query may be restricted.
  • Live Connection to a Published Model: If the dataset is hosted on a Power BI service or Analysis Services, you won’t be able to modify queries within Power BI Desktop.
  • Corrupt PBIX File: Try opening an older version of the file or checking whether the issue persists when starting a new report.
  • External Dependencies: If your queries reference external files, databases, or APIs, there might be connection issues preventing Power Query from loading.

If none of these seem to be the issue and everything appears correctly configured, I’d recommend opening a support ticket with Microsoft for further investigation.

Perhaps no one else has encountered this issue. My data was imported by connecting to the database using an import method. I have tested the capacity issue you just mentioned myself and it is not the same problem. My current problem is that I want to modify the KQL code of a previously loaded data source, but on Power BI Desktop, I cannot open the "Edit Query" page, see anything, or modify the code. I am a bit curious because I was still using it normally yesterday
