One Dataset multiple reports

I have a report that I created that is used by three different types of users.  It does however use exactly the same dataset underneath.

Is there a way to create multiple reports that all use the same dataset?  Currently the dataset seems to get named after the PBIX file so if you have three versions you get three datasets.  My current solution is to have one report that contains all the elements that is my working solution.  I then load that report delete the tabs that are not necessary for a particular userbase then save and publish for that user base.

This is a bit of a pain and if I forget to do one I risk the data being inconsistent.  This is escalating as more groups need specialised versions of this based on the same data (bearing in mind much of that data is created in power queries from the original source database).  Really what I'm trying to do here is make sure that all related reports are using the same version of the power queries.

Does anyone have any thoughts on how this can be managed?  Is it just that the complexity around this has not been addressed yet or is it that I am missing an obvious solution?  If I could even publish one report and hide tabs based on the logged on user I could live with it.  Any suggestions gratefully received.

As I understand it, templates are a snapshot as of the instantiation in a particular report. What if I want to modify the dataset on which 30 reports rely? Do I have to choose 1 of the pbix, make and publish changes, export to overwrite existing template, then export to pbix each of the other 29 reports from the cloud?

Did you try to publish your dataset and then do multiple report into the web version version with the same dataset ?

When you edit a report int othe web version, you can do "Save as". It will create a new report with same data. This report must be edited with Power BI service.

If you update your data, all related report will be updated. Same thing if you update your dataset with new columns/queries/tables or other elements that you can add from Power BI Desktop.

is there a way to modify the "second" report in Power BI Desktop or do can I use PBServices only?

The desktop version is much easiermore friendly!

I get it you mean do the final Tab adjustments in the web version and then save those.  Interesting thought too.
