I receive the following error when trying to load anything bigger than "small" data from Azure Databricks.
OLE DB or ODBC error: [DataSource.Error] ERROR [HY000] [Microsoft][Hardy] (35) Error from server: error code: '0' error message: '[Microsoft][Hardy] (134) File 1679c254-86f6-4290-9a80-19febd6cb4a4: A retriable error occurred while attempting to download a result file from the cloud store but the retry limit had been exceeded. Error Detail: File 1679c254-86f6-4290-9a80-19febd6cb4a4: An error had occurred while attempting to download the result file. The error is: Couldn't connect to server. Since the connection has been configured to consider all result file download as retriable errors, we will attempt to retry the download.'..
I’ve noticed the following …
This error is specifically tied to my account on my PC alone. I don’t recall if this got this way after installing ODAC or something else but clearly something is messed up with my account on my PC. I’ve uninstalled ODAC, uninstalled/reinstalled PBI, and reinstalled the Simba Spark driver all without any success.
I do not want to reformat my PC … is there some log file to better understand what’s wrong so this can be fixed?
Hi! Did you manage to find a solution? I have a similar issue and I cannot seem to get a hold of it. Thanks!
I ended up getting my PC refreshed with a new one and problem solved but obviously this is not the ideal solution. I didn't have the chance to try the recommendation below since I no longer have the PC. Alternatively you may create a new user account on your existing PC and will likely fix the problem since as I described above the problem wasn't related to my userid but the settings/files under my windows profile. Good luck!
Hi, I encounter the same issue. Works for small tables, but large tables produce this error.
Hi @bugsysiegals -
Ensure your PC is not blocking Power BI or Azure Databricks-related traffic.
Test your connection to Azure Databricks using tools like ping or tracert to ensure network reachability.
2. Clear Power BI Cache
Power BI caches data locally, which might cause issues.
Go to File > Options and Settings > Options > Data Load and clear the cache.
3. Inspect ODBC Driver Settings
Check the Simba Spark ODBC driver configuration.
Open the ODBC Data Source Administrator on your PC.
Verify the settings for the Azure Databricks DSN, including the server hostname, HTTP path, and authentication credentials.
4. Check Power BI Logs
Power BI maintains diagnostic logs that can provide more detailed insights.
Enable tracing by going to File > Options and Settings > Options > Diagnostics and turning on "Enable tracing."
C:\Users\<YourUsername>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Power BI Desktop\Traces
Ensure you are using the latest version of the Simba Spark ODBC driver provided by Databricks.
Uninstall the existing driver, restart your PC, and reinstall it from the official Databricks website. (Remove and reconfigure ODAC again).
Hope the above details helps.
