We are moving from a Postgres data source to MariaDB (Columnstore engine). Previously, we've been using direct query on Postgres to enable manual refreshing of near-real time dashboards, and this has been very reliable.
I have the latest MariaDB ODBC driver (3.1.17) and PowerBI desktop (2.108 - Aug 2022) installed and from everything I've read, PowerBI supports DQ to MariaDB from driver 3.1.10. Problem is, when I create a new data source, select MariaDB, and select direct query in the dialog, no query box appears below (as it does with a Postgres connection). When I select OK, the table selection dialog appears, which doesn't allow custom queries, and forces scheduled updates.
I have also tried to use an ODBC connection with MariaDB configured as an underlying data source. In this case I can insert a custom query, but there is no ability to enable manual refreshes of the dataset - only scheduled.
I have configured the on-prem gateway to allow connections direct to the MariaDB database and also via the ODBC connector. Neither option allows me to refresh the dataset and visuals via the refresh button at the top right of the report in the web service.
To be clear, what I'm after is a DQ capability for MariaDB that allows manual refreshes of the data/visuals on reports published to the web service - exactly as I can with postgres.
Have I misunderstood the capabilities of the MariaDB connector or am I just doing it wrong?
Thanks.
@wm-hismile , I do not even see that option(Advance) for Import mode. Is that option supported? I do not see that here in this document - https://mariadb.com/resources/blog/getting-started-with-the-mariadb-direct-query-adapter-for-microso...
Thanks @amitchandak. Looks like the MariaDB and Postgres DQ functions are not equivalent. Might have to change my approach.
