Narrative Visual

Hi,

I;m trying to use the newly added Narrative Visual into my report and it is finally working. I'm trying to change the wordings e.g. it uses a word series where I want to say documents. Any idea how to do that?

@mroomi Where in power bi desktop do you see a new visual ? I don't see in mine. I have latest desktop update.

@ankitpatira The narrative visual is a "custom" visual, that was only announced in the PBI blogs end of last month. It doesn't show up in the custom visuals gallery and it is actually a web service that extracts your data and provides a narrative for the visual that you define. It's pretty cool, but the web service/extract my data piece makes me leary. Especially since I haven't heard anything more definitive about security and how long they store my data. Both of which are just generic FAQs on the site.

Oh wow really? they extract all of the data?

I am using SSAS and live connection just to avoid sending the data into the cloud.

Since it's a third party custom visual, I recommed you ask for support from Narrative Science.

The latest version enables you to change words in the text.   For example I have successfully changed the word "Period" to "Year".

Use the Language Tab after clicking on the Black Wheel Cog and enter your options.

Where did the Narratives visual from Narrative Science go? It is no longer in the Custom Visual Marketplace after being an Editor's Pick for years. I have many reports that are using this visual. Is this now a security concern? Any plans on adding it back to Marketplace?

I can no longer find it either. I have a working report from two years back, hoping to copy into a new one. No luck. Web search does not find a download. Narrative Science website provides a demo for their product now known as Quill, with "Request a Demo" option. To me, this indicates there is no longer a free sampler. And any time you need to request a demo, the key takeaway is $$$$Big Bucks solution out of my reach.

Thanks @Anonymous. Sounds cool but yeah agree with data security especially when you have sensitive data.
