Multiple datasets

I have successfully created a report by importing an excel file from my computer.

After that, I have installed a gateway in a server to create a report getting data from a SQL Server.

Now, I noticed that under "Dataset", the dataset that was automatically created for the previous report it shows an error message indicating that the gateway is not configured correctly becase the excel file cannot be found. And it does not allow me to turn off the option "use data gateway" as it is grayed out.

Question:

How can I set the report not to use the data gateway?   ( I am not allowed to copy the file in the server)

This is what I see:

And,  I can't find a way to remove the second datasource.

That second line is just showing that the enterprise gateway does not have access to your C drive so you can't use it to refresh your report.

The first line is the personal gateway that is selected as the one to use when refreshing the dataset "Updated_Dashboard v3" and looks like it is working.  You should be able to refresh your dataset.

If you had 10 enterprise gateways at your organization they would all appear in that list but only your personal gateway would work (for this dataset) because it is the only one that has access to your C: drive.

Hello @Anonymous

The first report would have given you that error even if you had not created the second report.  When you first published it all the data was in your copy of the .pbix file becasue you pulled the data from the excel sheet.  Now that the dataset is out on PowerBI it needs a way to get to that excel file.  What you can do is install a personal gateway on your machine and use that one for the report that looks at the excel file.

Hello @jdbuchanan71

I installed the personal gateway. However, the second gateway does not disappear from the dataset.

Now, it shows both, but the second with the same error. I also tried to re-publish the report, but I still get the same result.

Any idea?

Did you set up the personal gateway to use your windows credentials?

Yes

When looking at a dataset, you will see all the gateways you have (enterprise and personal) and you choose which one you want to use for the dataset you are working on.

For the dataset coming from excel when you go into

  • Dataset > Settings > Gateway connection

what do you see?
