Multi Select Checkbox Slicer Value Default Selection based on Excel File Values

Hi Friends,

I have a Report that uses 2 Slicers. One for Department (single select) and another slicer for Employee Names (multi-select checkbox from Name column of the Employees table) and the rest of the visuals are refreshed based on what we select. This is all working well.

The Employee Name slicer may have almost 50 names so is there a way we can have another Excel file with just Commonly Selected Names that we can load into the report and the Employee Slicer will auto-select the values that are loaded from the Excel file?

A question may come Why can't we make the Excel file as Slicer? Becasue, the report users may select other employees or employees from the main table, but the Excel file is nothing but the commonly picked Names.

Is that a possible scenario to do in PBI? Please suggest. Or is there a better way to get this done?

Thanks,

Prabhat

@prabhatnath Unfortunately there is no way to default select based on some other source. You are out of options until the newer version of the slicer visual is out, not sure when.

Thanks for responding.

If default selection on checkbox is not possible then any other approach that we can follow?
May be 2 buttons: One Use Default List and 2nd Allow Selection from Entire List?

or May be some other approach that can be done where users will be either see the data based on the default selection from the excel file (without allowing to select anything) or allowed to use the checkbox with all names.

Thanks,

Prabhat
