Merging tables

When merging two tables i used duplicate for the dim table and then removed duplicates and then I attempted to merge using 3 columns: make, model and derivative. I selected all 3 in the merge but only 10% of the rows matched. When i jist selected make then 95% of the rows matched. Am i doing anything wrong in my creating dim table process.
